OK I know I promised appartment pictures, but well... We didn't do anything more to finish it all because we spent the day elsewhere. Went to see Tonton and Maximilien and then later to the Louvre. I have been there many times before, but never to the main exhibition.

It's hard for me to appreciate the stuff there as art, but I really like to think about how old it all is and wonder how people have been using it all for so long. Like Sam said, it really makes you dream.

I took a bunch of photos too, but it's all just symmetry stuff really. You've seen it all before ;)

Damn, that's gorgeous! I've always wanted to go to the Louvre ever since I read THE DA VINCI CODE.

Picture #7 is amazing. Number 11 is spooky; how did you take that picture in such low light? Very impressive. And #12 is great. If you had used a slower shutter speed, perhaps the light would look like it was pouring into the windows? I don't know, it's just an observation. I like it.

And the teeny little Mona Lisa painting in #8 just cracks me up. You know, they say she was probably part of a larger painting that was cut years ago.

Hehe yeah they get a lot of tourists since that book I think.

Well I don't know. People say a lot of things about that painting...

that old lady with her green stuff on the head (on picture 3)
she will never leave us anymore now, she's forever in your computer...
erf, I hope we won't hear her complaining at night

Hehe yes and she really looks like herself too...

Having the Mona Lisa on such a large blank wall, all by her lonesome, just makes her seem all the smaller.

I don't feel bad making jokes about God, Jesus, Moses, Allah, whathaveyou, but as an art major, I felt a little sacreligious telling people that I was very underwhelmed when I first saw that painting. I was expecting so much more. I was far more awestruck by all the paintings by David and Gericault.

I would have liked to see photographs of the apartments of Napoleon III. I am not a photographer so I was ill-prepared, and the battery on my camera ran out just as we got to that portion of the Louvre.

how do you meter? do you use the in camera meter to take light readings. your exposures are always well done. do you do any post production editing??? i love these. they are lovely

I usually set it to whatever situation I am in. It was a bit tiresome when I first started doing it, but after a while you learn to read the light better. And yeah I use Iphoto. And Photoshop for the more heavy editing...

Nice photos!

Strange that you don't view anything in the Louvre as art.

Maybe just 'cause I'm an art major and all.
10th-Nov-2007 11:11 am (UTC)
I know it's art, it just doesn't speak to me :)
10th-Nov-2007 02:49 am (UTC)
I've always found that some of the rooms of the Louvre are more interesting than the art in them.
10th-Nov-2007 10:09 am (UTC)
Yep, my favourites are #10 and the bust.

Great guy and great photographer :)

And thanks!

Photos #5 & #10 (the ones that aren't symmetrical) are INCREDIBLE. The others are nice as well, but those two (and the B&W bust 3rd from the end) are really dramatic.

great pics... I love the Lourve but always get sore feet walking around it - its so big!
I always avoid the Mona Lisa area - too hard to get near it - so many tourists...
10th-Nov-2007 11:13 am (UTC)
It really is huge. But I like how big it is :)
10th-Nov-2007 11:13 am (UTC)

10th-Nov-2007 11:15 am (UTC)
