It's a bit funny, because in France they just call it 14th july, and they don't have the habit saying "happy 14th" or anything like that to eachother. But it seems Americans do it? At least from what I saw on twitter...

Anyway, we just went to Miki's place, which is not far from here. Jun was there too, so then we got to say goodbye again. I feel like we're always giving him goodbye parties :P He flies back tonight so...sayonara! Again! I had such a nice time though. I love these people a lot.

The fireworks were soooo cool. It's the first time I've seen them launched from the actual Eiffel tower. Really nice!

We're taking the car to the south of France tomorrow, and we'll be there for a few days. I think I'll bring my laptop though, so I should stay somewhat connected. Lolo's parents are going away for a while so we will just hang out there at the vineyard. I'm excited! It looks like a really cool place. And I've never been to this part of France before.

Its a continental thing. The Mexicans do the same thing with Cinco de Mayo.

And you're going to a vineyard in the south of France? Many pictures, please.

By the way, the two pictures you have of the Eiffel Tower are absolutely stunning.

Seems maybe it's more the Americans who are into CdM as well :P Look the comment a bit further down...

And thanks!

In the area I live, all of the adults play Petanque for the evening on Bastille Day cause we're twinned with a French town. I noticed the American thing though on Twitter ... maybe they're just trying to appear cultured ha?
15th-Jul-2009 08:27 pm (UTC)
Haha nice :P They do that here every day. The old guys in the parks...

Thanks for sharing the photos of your friends and the fireworks. Great shots as always. First the carnival in the Tuileries and now Bastille Day. I miss Paris so much! I want to move back! Please send photos from the south of France. Love it there too!

"Happy 4th" rolls off the tongue easier than "Happy 14th"..... particularly when you are drunk which some of us tend to be on holidays......
15th-Jul-2009 08:28 pm (UTC)
Hmmm I'm not sure you got what I meant, but maybe you are drunk now as well :P

The American 4th of July was also a bit more successful/less monstrous than France's 14th. :P

A bit :P
15th-Jul-2009 04:32 pm (UTC) - It's not like Cinco de Mayo

we the mexicans (living in Mexico, not the USA) don't celebrate Cinco de Mayo as the gringos think. Because it's not that very special like 14th July in France or 4th July in the US.

It is 16th September, our independence day which we celebrate like 4th July or La Bastille day

Cheers

the last two shots are astonishingly: they belongs together ideally. the bubbling joy of perle and its enthusiastic expression finds its correspondence in form and mood of that great firework sending out showers of sparks. whow.

btw: perle is one of the best "models" of your marvellous portfolio ;)

16th-Jul-2009 12:52 am (UTC)
I celebrated it at home by watching a French news channel :D The parades looked amazing~

Why do you only have Americans on your Twitter? Sad.
22nd-Jul-2009 12:59 am (UTC)
Haha I never watched that. Just notice when the jets fly by...

Not only Americans :)
