what a day
18th-May-2006 12:20 am

What a looong looong day. Work was stressful as heck. Half of us were leaving early, so we had to try and close up the food hall an hour earlier than we usually do. We were supposed to meet up with my aunt at Djurgårdsbron, but we were half an hour late because Anders' subway card decided to play hide and seek. Ugh I was so fucking stressed out. We finally found it though, and we finally cought up with the 17th of May parade by Skansen. My aunt was there with my cousin Olivia and a bunch of other Norwegians living on her little island. Lots of people! I had never expected it to be as many. The parade isn't really like American ones with floats and stuff, it's mostly just people dressed up and walking along, with a marching band here and there. It's nice though :]. It's very common to wear a Bunad, the national folk costume. Especially common for girls. My aunt (the one in the red coat) said she really wants one, but a new one costs like $10 000 because of all the embroidery and silver. But yeah, the parade stopped at Skansen and we had ourselves a little picnic there before we walked around and checked out the animals. Skansen is sortof this semi zoo thing where they have some animals, but not really all that many. Most of them are native to the local nature in Scandinavia. I took lots of pics there too, but eh I'll upload those later.

Also, we met up with Daniel and ate at a restaurant in our neighbourhood. Yum :]

oh, big norwegian invasion in sweden and soo funny :) and the little kids are so cute in their costumes! and between that norwegian parade through sweden you took a danish guy with you, what a cultural mixture.
nice to see that you celebrate this day so much. germans don't do that so intensive. when is your next trip to norway?

mhm, yes your right with the german celebration. i think everybody except a german would show with their fingers on us and would say: "they become nazis again". but with the new beginning after 45 we are a completely different nation. lol i should not justify us germans but sometimes i think the people don't want to understand.
so we our national day is the third of october when the "mauer" fell. a very important day, less for the germans than the world!
