yeah

true they're definitely not the same things but the icelanders haven't exactly came up with any good reasons for it.

http://environment.guardian.co.uk/conservation/story/0,,1925584,00.html

"A recent poll of Icelanders by anti-whalers found that only 1% of Icelanders eat whale meat once a week or more, while 82.4% of 16- to 24-year-olds never eat whale meat."

the economic reason for the hunting they keep repeating over and over whiffs of bullsh*t (slightly)

they're not doing this for fun, they're doing it because there is an industry for it. just as there are industries for cows and pigs and herring. i don't really see why whales are so special.

Killing whales when their numbers are dwindling is bad, in my opinion...
23rd-Oct-2006 12:20 am (UTC)
well yeah, but that goes for any kind of animal
22nd-Oct-2006 10:53 pm (UTC)
nope.
i can't agree.
killing whales is a crime.
same crime because it has the same idea.
kill.
we can survive without whales meat. Everytime that we kill an animal we are going to destroy the nature.
so.. don't say that.
it's so wrong man.
23rd-Oct-2006 12:22 am (UTC)
so everytime a lion kills a zebra it is destroying nature?

as long as the whales have a sustainable population i don't really see the reason to spare them more than the other fishies.

oooooh you made an account. welcome! :D

hypothetically, if someone were to kill your dog in the name of industry, if their was an industry for it, that would make it ok? a dog is still just an animal. does its status as a pet really make it more special than a whale?

i agree to some extent... i don't like the idea of hunting for sport. if it's for food, fine.

on the other hand, somewhere around 60,000 innocent iraqi civilans have been killed because of our illegal and immoral war.

that is definitely a much bigger deal than a few whales.

still, killing whales is pretty fucked-up as well
