so i'm getting in shape!
23rd-May-2008 08:59 pm

Well at least I will try. For a couple of weeks now I've been doing some exercises every day. I am in really really bad shape, but well I guess that is what this is all about.

It's been very random though, and I've just been doing as many situps/pushups/squats as i could handle (=not many) until i collapsed. I'm not really sure how to go about this in a more organised way. Does anyone have any advice? I don't really care about running and this kind of stuff as I'm already very skinny. I'm more into maybe just tighten up and (maybe) get a bit more defined. Everywhere really....bum and tummy and chest and yeah...

And please don't tell me to go to a gym ok? I feel humiliated just by thinking about it! :P

So any advice would be appreciated :)

I got one! :)

That's the best way.

Get some small weights about 8 pounds and do some curls and arm lifts. You'll tone up real fast and get stronger too!

What are curls?

And what's with the vulgar icon? :p

I've been jogging recently, tryin' to lose some baggage.
I'm sure you'll be able to tone up just fine :>
Great pictures too, that Hello Kitty poster is intense.

Well the question is more about wether or not I can keep on doing it. I have TERRIBLE self dicipline with these kind of things. I really wish I was one of those people who loved working out.

Are the last two photos of you and not different people?

A multivitamin, plenty of water, protein, and good fats are really important.

Well my diet isn't all that bad I think. It's more the physical action I need to get into...

The last one is of me. The one before is of Sam :)

Aaaww, you're adorable in that last picture. You look kinda sleepy, haha.

The best way to get defined is repetition. Doing push-ups and stuff with weights will make you stronger, but just to look more "cut" you need to do lots and lots of sets. Honestly though the best way is by swimming. You've seen the bodies of swimmers, right? Totally toned up! It's cause they're constantly using many muscles at a time (lots of repetition!) with little to no resistance; plus it's very low impact. That means it's not a pain to your joints and stuff like running is.

I've taken up running over the past year or so, but I really want to get into swimming.

Hmmmm. I'm a terrible swimmer though :P

Just do ir regularly: whether every day or a certain number of times per week, make a schedule and do it, regardless of whether you're busy/out of town/whatever. (Well, make an exception if you're sick, of course :P) That's worked best for me.

Yeah. It's going to be a challenge though since I don't really have much routine in my life. It makes it hard to fit an activity in there regularly.

Woo I'm motivated now :)

For the push ups and stuff I just do 15 at a time as many times as I can bare. If not I would probably just make it to 20 and stop there :p

Here's my preferred fitness regime:

-eat what I want (mainly deep fried and choclatey goods)
-avoid physical activity when possible
-stop looking in mirrors

Deep fried chocolate even!

I don't know you, but if you're skinny, then you wont get big muscles only with exercises. You can't change your body from night to the next day. (Sorry for being so negative).

But, you can ask a nutritionist (does this word exist?) to balance your diet with protein and carbohydrate, plus exercises.

And as said above, swimming is the best way to get a nice body ;)

BTW: You allready have a nice body :)
24th-May-2008 02:12 am (UTC) - maybe I can help you...
I can embolden you while you are doing sport by singing you a song...?

1) for any exercise to be effective you have to do it long enough and often enough for your muscles and heart to feel it. so about 20 to 25 minutes, so before u do your sit-ups, start by walking FAST for ten or 15 minutes. And afterwards, maybe just jog on the spot in your apartment for five minutes to keep your blood flowing faster for longer.
2) and start with just TEN sit-ups, not 20. then after a week, go up to 15, then 20. then 30 then 50. If you start with so many that you struggle, and ur body hates you, you will stop doing them within a week.
3) the same applies to push-ups. as long as you start with ten EVERY day, you will slowly get your body, muscles and mind trained.
4) someone suggested getting a pair of weights (the style is called dumbells in english)and exercising your arms with them. good idea, but you would probably want to start with something of just 1.5kg or 2kg each. (once again - if you start with too high a weight, you will find it harder to make the exercise a habit.) and again, as with the sit-ups and push-ups - start with just ten or 15 "curls" for each arm.
5) Walk as much as you can. Don't catch buses or the Metro if you are just going one or two kilometres. if you don't like running, well... running is great for what you want to do. but maybe when you've done some exercises in your apartment for three months you will feel better about starting to run.
all you need and want to do is get yourself a little fitter and stronger, and build up stamina. you'd look silly with big muscles bulging out of ur skinny frame.
i won't tell you how to get cuter because you're already cute as :p

People keep telling me to go slowly so I guess it's what I'll do.

As for walking, I really prefer it to subway and all this if I have time and it is not too far. I like walking with my music.

i'd agree. for your body type, swimming would be the best way to just get toned without getting bulky. you will put on some muscle from the swimming, but it will be leaner.

that and yoga. yoga gives you very long lean muscles. i'm a big fan of bikram "hot" yoga.

it's in this room they heat up to like 100 degrees and you sweat like hell, but it gets all your toxins out and feels really good afterward.

i never tried yoga, but it's best to go to classes for that no?
