The things that have been going on in Palestine these last weeks really makes my stomach twist.

I don't support suicide bombings. Of course I don`t. It's obvious right? What I don't understand is how it is not equally obvious to so many people that the way Israel is handling this is wrong. How is this supposed to bring peace? Bombing schools, hospitals, bombing UN hqs. And then of course trying to keep the media from telling the world about it. If that isn't dirty fucking play then I don't know what is.

And Israel is supposed to be the educated side. The civilized side...

The Palestinians there where in a humanitarian crisis even before this recent offense my Israel army. The civilian population can't escape anywhere, as the area is sealed. So they just have to sit there waiting, while their cage is being trashed. No food either, because the humanitarian aid is being prevented by Israel. I can't even imagine...

It's worse than terrorism I think. And I really don't have to wonder how the people living in Gaza are convinced of it.

I'm not very good at expressing myself, I know...

A Jewish friend of mine on LJ made a really great post quoting something he had read. You can find it here. You're not as alone in your thinking as you might have assumed.

15th-Jan-2009 06:48 pm (UTC) - it could have been worse, it could ....
okay let's think straight for a moment. I live in a country that is licking 3 arses at the same time (imagine the taste in my mouth for the last 20 years) - those being the US, Russia and now for the last few years - the EU. We, at Bulgaria are at our knees licking the arses of all those, who hate each other and punish us whenever we do it to the other. At this point this might not sound related but bare with me to the next paragraph.
Now what if we have had the power to do something, to change all this? Would we be still in the all four position? I don't think so. Now when I think about Israel and Gaza it sounds to me the same. They do what they think is the right thing. Without considering listening to what the big brothers has to say. Without the ass licking. You wouldn't leave some country that is clearly hiding terrorists and by this outing your children to danger every day. You, who are against the actions taken from Israel - have you ever been on military service? Or on the national border? To serve and protect? I don't think so. Every man and woman in Israel has to go to service, 3 years. OMG I cannot even imagine loosing 3 years of my life and risking it all this time!
Now what if you can stop this. What if you and you children can stop worrying about dying all of a sudden by the slaughter of some idiotic extremist? Wouldn't you just put your gears on and tress pass the country? I would. Just like the US did in Iraq. You dare not to criticize the US for its action now would you. It was to protect the nation from the awful terrorists. Right? Not that they didn't kill innocent people there. Not that they did not torture people there. Not that they didn't leave ruins after them. But would you criticize? What if it was your country and your life?
I believe what Israel does is what has to be done. The only difference is they don't give a damn of what the others are trying to say in this case, they will do and then talk. All people do lately is talk to much and do nothing.
So yeah, I support Israel in this. And no, I am not a Jew.
15th-Jan-2009 08:03 pm (UTC) - Re: it could have been worse, it could ....
Well they would be wise to listen to the US I suppose, as it is there the military money is coming from. Mostly they have had support from them though.

But tell me, what do you think is worse? Slaughter by idiot extremists (i agree that is what they are) or slaughter by educated professionals?

The Palestinian children are suffering a lot more in this conflict than the Israeli ones...

I remember yes :)

I'm notsure I agree about Hamas though. Just because the Palestinians don't have anyone better to take care of them, that doesn't mean Hamas should get a break. They have some pretty stupid and fucked up stuff on their agenda, even if they are also the ones behind buildings hospitals and schools.

Very well said, sir.

not really :p
but thanks...

The problem is Hamas. They've been firing rockets into Israeli territory for weeks, which is what started this mess. How long is a country supposed to wait to defend its citizens from random attacks?

Of course, then Hamas holes up in schools, hospitals, apartment buildings, the UN HQ, just to maximize civilian casualties of their own people. It's like suicide bombing without letting the "suicider" have a say in the matter. It's utterly sick.

As at least one grieving Palestinian mother said: "May God exterminate Hamas!"
15th-Jan-2009 08:15 pm (UTC)
One of the problems is Hamas, yes. But no, they didn't "start" this mess. The rockets were retaliations for recent killings of Palestinians by Israel. And that is how most of the cease fires there end. Check out: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/nancy-kanwisher/reigniting-violence-how-d_b_155611.html

And maybe it is just me, but even if there is someone shooting from a school building full of kids...does that really make it ok to bomb them all? If some sort of national threat was "holing up" as you say, in your local school...would you really be ok with the military taking them all out to get at the guy? And in many cases they aren't even sure. But there might maybe have been someone shooting from there. So they bombed...
15th-Jan-2009 07:18 pm (UTC) - I agree
As an American and a political science/global studies major, I agree that the current Israeli/Gaza conflict is not being handled up to code. The violence needs to stops!

I've been sort of surprised that the mainstream US news channels are showing the Palestinian perspective much more than they have in the past. The huge difference in casualities on both sides is depicted every day.

I think American opinion on the whole Palestinian/Israeli situation is turning a corner, not unlike the period in 2005-2006 when the majority opinion on Bush and especially the Iraq invasion changed from pro to anti.

Thank god.

Any nation that restricts access to journalists knows it is doing something fundamentally wrong.
15th-Jan-2009 08:17 pm (UTC)
I've been noticing the same thing. From Americans I mean. It used to be a lot more one sided...

Bullshit. Instead of talking do something, send money!
So many spoiled brats complaining and right after watching porn and playing video games.
Fucking bullshit. People are fucking dying!

15th-Jan-2009 08:25 pm (UTC) - Re: George Morelli
It's true what you say. But would it be better to just play games and watch porn and never care about the things I'm writing about here?

And to be fair, you don't really know anything about where my money is going or not.
15th-Jan-2009 08:55 pm (UTC)
I personally believe it's politics, people that are high up in the gov office of each country that are making shit up where as the common people of each country are the one that are suffering.

War is what generates money, the buying and trading weapons is where a lot of country gets their major income at the expense of innocent life. And it's pretty easy to stir up people by making up shit using politic, basic living needs and religion to have an excuse to start a war.

Any chance you can get your tomagochi ninjas go take out those asshole officials? =P

Like you I am appalled and frustrated but these events and disregard for live.
It is the world that we are creating though. We elect governments to represent our views and beliefs globally ad then we sit back year after year while they do the complete opposite in our name.

I sometimes wonder if the people in Gaza are torn between their despair of this conflict and the loss and waste of so many lives AND their desire to fight for this cause they believe in.

We talk to each other online, even friends who have been in the middle of this conflict but it goes no further. The voices are not heard in the upper echelons.

I guess most of us, me included, are guilty of just being upset and angry but not enough to explore what we can do.
Maybe someone, some day will actually hear us

ok i'm not going to write you a novel i'll try to keep it short.
both sides have their rights and both have their wrongs. i'm against war.
but you need to understand something, this attack wasnt random, hamas is a terrorist organization that has been terrorizing israel for some time now.
its impossible to reason with them, every contract of peace that they signed to they broke by shooting bombs at israels civilians.
you are right, israel is the more 'civilized' side in this and that is precisely why they feel the need to protect their civilians.
hamas on the other hand is at power in palestine because they scared everyone out of going against them, they dont care about the civilians in palestine all they care about is their own interests(which are destroying israel).
the fact is most palestinians WANT israel to take down hamas, some of them even asked to join the israeli army to help.
yes right now innocent people are dying over at gaza but the fact is: its happening because hamas wants it to happen. they hide behind the civilians and they know that if an innocent child dies today it will make the news an then people like you, watching the news will think 'oh israel are terrorists how could they do that, those poor people in palestine and blah blah blah' they abuse that to the max.
they throw children infront of israels tanks, they make their head corners in appartment buildings of innocent people cause they know that israel tries as hard as they can to not harm civilians and they wont fire before giving a warning to the people in that building. thats how the israeli army operates; they warn people before they enter to give the civilians a chance to get away but hamas WANTS israel to hurt civilians so they dont let them go.
i hate war i hope this will end soon, but sometimes there really is no other way, hopefully this will end next week and hopefully even if israel fails to eliminate hamas entirely, those who are left will learn their lesson and wont think that their attacks on israel will go unpunished.
sorry i think i failed at keeping it short.
18th-Jan-2009 03:38 pm (UTC) - i don't understand
what is the source to know that? Are you palestinian? or member of the hamas?
Who was telling you that?
