cool stuff

I just saw Pitch Black, and I don't know why, but I really liked it. I saw Chronicles of Riddick at the cinema when I was in SoCal last year, and while it was an OK movie, lot's of stuff bugged me about it. It was like it was trying to be grand without really pulling it off. Pitch Black was different. It had a kind of rawness to it that Chronicles lack...and a lot more intimacy. I was watching it on my tiny tv set and it still felt as if I was there. The darkness....the hiding of the monsters. See that's where so many movies just crash...when they show too much of the monster. When you see it on the screen it doesn't really scare you so much...cuz let's face it, we have seen all sorts of shit on tv and it doesn't really get to us anymore. But when they keep the monsters out there in the unknown, even throughout the whole movie, at least I find them a lot more scary. So that was great. And even though Vin Diesel is a crappy actor, he pulls off Riddick sooo well. I mean, that is one cool mthrfckr! Almost no dialoge, just short implying lines. Perfect for him.

I guess I knew why I liked it afterall...
